Grab Bags of Goodness from Gourmet Nut #Review

logo

A while back I got the opportunity to take a few Gourmet Nut's products for a test drive, and boy howdy were they the belle of the ball. Great flavors in their salts and sugars that brought out the best of whatever dish they were added to. But Gourmet Nut wasn't finished by a long shot. There was also the little matter of their "Gourmet on the Go" line of snack packs. I got to try 4 different varieties, some more than others thanks to the snarfing of a certain hubby who shall remain nameless.
IMAG1064-1
I'll start with the mix that went "poof" first, the Cajun Hot Mix. A combination of sesame sticks, peanuts, cajun corn sticks, almonds, and tasty chili bits, this one was a tasty little number that had the added benefit of just a touch of heat. Fans of this blog know that in my house, the hotter the better. And while this mix some heat, it wasn't so hot as to discourage the chilie-challenged among us from diving in, either. It wasn't loaded with sodium either, like so many other savory snack packs from other "bigger" brands. All while being trans-fat free, cholesterol-free, and vegan. Not too shabby! This generous 8 oz. bag was gone, baby, gone within a calendar week thanks to Mr. Snack Vacuum over here, but the little bit I got, I loved.

IMAG1063-1
Next on the hit parade was Gourmet Nut's "Body Boosting Antioxidant Mix". Bursting with flavor from raisins, cranberries, blueberries, dark chocolate, pecans and walnuts, this all natural, gluten free treat went over like gangbusters here. Fruit, nuts, and chocolate? Yes, please! Also boasting 5 grams of protein per 1 ounce serving, and just 150 calories, this 6 once bag didn't last kissing time either. At least I got more than a token handful this time. And every little bit was fresh, full and bursting with flavor. Not a bag full of broken bits and powder, either. Just a Bag of win.

∼♦∼

IMAG1062-1

Number three is one that I'm sure will do well, Gourmet Nut's "Energize Me" Protein Mix. 8 ounces filled to brim with dried cherries, raisins, almonds, cashews, peanuts and pumpkin seeds. All natural, vegan and gluten free, this is a satisfying mouthful for just about anyone. Hubby, usually in  staunch opposition to nuts of almost any kind, even grabbed a handful or three. The dried fruit isn't overly sweet, and the nuts roasty, not salty. Each one ounce serving gives you a whopping 7 grams of protein, 3 grams of dietary fiber, and only 150 calories. A crunchy little snack like this goes well with this household, especially since we don't eat lunch but can get "munchy" between breakfast and dinner. This plugs that hole perfectly.

∼♦∼

IMAG1061-1
Last on the hit parade is Gourmet Nut's Nature's Mix. This one I loved, with raisins, cranberries, peanuts, pineapple, papaya, almonds, and cashews. It has everything but my name. All natural, gluten free, and vegan. This 8 ounce bag is only 120 calories per serving, and is another excellent mid day snack. It's also cholesterol free, and trans-fat free. Hubby isn't crazy about papaya and pineapple, so it didn't get squirreled away and an empty bag just appear like some of the other varieties. So I got to take my time with the one and really enjoy it. And believe me, I enjoyed the heck out of it.

∼♦∼

Gourmet Nut has many more varieties in their "Gourmet on the Go" line,  like Veggie Chips, Mega Omega Mix, Almond Cranberry Crunch, and much more. With prices running as little as $3 and change per bag, up to around $4.50 or so (they're sold in packs of 6), there's a snack sack for every budget. Along with the salts and spice rubs I've reviewed for them, they also offer Health Seeds and Power Up Snack bags. And there is nothing in their line I've tried that isn't quality. The salts are up there with some of my favorites, and the prices for everything are very reasonable. Too often snack mixes are loaded with salt, sugar, and fillers that leave you hungrier than before you dug in, and then filled with regret when you step on the scale. That's just not the case here. What you see is what you get. You see pictures of fruit and nuts, and you get a   bag full of fruits and nuts. Very refreshing nowadays. Thank you, Gourmet Nut.

IMAG1065-1

I'm so tempted to throw a handful of some of these into a quickbread dough and see what happens. Power loaf, perhaps? But that's a post for another day. Assuming I can hide these from that roaming muncher I married.

HouseParty/Chatterbox: Mary Kay Acne System, Clear Proof Kit #Review

IMAG1599

I'm at that stage where I pick my battles with my skin. I am not surrendering but realize that some days I fight acne and blemishes, while other days it's the aging battle. If I fight my battle too hard, I end up with dry and flaky skin, and so far I have not read that flaky lizard skin is the 2014 Fall look. I have tried several OTC brands to even "Spa" and boutique lines. Some work great at the start and then fail, or some just congest my skin from the beginning that I give-up after enduring the "break-out period" while my skin is suppose to adjust to the failed product.

Mary Kay came out with a simple system that surprised me. First, they state that you will see clearer skin in about 7 days. This was based on a 12-week independent clinical trial. Secondly, it does not break the bank. The total kit retails for $45.00. Yes! The entire set and you are ready to go. Want to test the products out, try "The Go Set" that gives deluxe (smaller) sizes for just $20.00. Seems so doable but does it work?

This review will also include my Husband's results because he is also part guinea-pig like me and I tend to talk (and talk) him into trying stuff with me. He won't allow a full spa treatment but he is all for annihilating blemishes with me. Maybe the couple that kills pimples together, stays together :)

IMAG1601

Clear Proof Clarifying Gel (4.5 oz.) Face Wash:

  • Retails for: $16.00

First off the bat, the wash is a clear colored gel that is rated medium when it comes to thickness/texture. The lather is not so much at first "wetness" but once I add a little more by dabbing my fingers in the water, it does start to build a light foam. I find it dries out quick, so keep distributing and adding water as you go. The scent was a little surprising at first......okay, it does not smell great but I also don't want fragrances adding to my clogged skin. It smells organic and by this I mean sort of like greenery (plants). Not great but it does deliver 2% Salicylic acid and my face feels clean, not stripped after I wash. My Husband was surprised by the scent and his remark was somewhat of a groan and then continued to go forward and use it. Hey, it smells better than some of my "at home" concoctions!

IMAG1600

Clear Proof Blemish Control Toner (5 oz.):

  • Retails for: $15.00

I have used toners before and then stop after being tired of the burn and redness that amounts to zero benefits most times. I used the toner and yes it stings slightly if you have a pimple you popped even though you know better but it does feel re-freshening and leaves you with a nice clean surface. Not over drying that you feel someone stretched your skin tight. Once you look at the cotton ball then you will realize the need for it. I also do feel it balances my pH nicely and leaves a nice matte but natural finish. The product also Contains 2% salicylic acid to fight oil or whatever tries to haunt me with more pimples. My Husband's take was, "ewwww", to what was left behind on the cotton ball and I am happy to report he finally learned how to fill the cotton ball dispenser all on his own, versus leaving it empty and asking if we are out of them :)

IMAG1603

Clear Proof Acne Treatment Gel (1 oz.):

  • Retails for: $10.00

The one that fight's the best fight. A light gel that just fades but not just when it comes to color like with other gels/creams, it fades into the skin like Houdini! I can apply make-up and you can't notice or feel where the gel was applied. I am fighting pimples incognito and you will be happy with this treatment's ninja skills. It works, prevents, and also I find it lightens up any previous marks you have from acne. Almost accelerated the "cure time" so much, that my thin scab (from picking) was gone in 6 days. This was a scab I got before from a pimple that had it's own ninja skills and decided to poke but never show it's face! I tried popping and it just would not participate but now it's just a memory in my head and not on my face. My Husband likes it because being a guy, you don't exactly depend on make-up, so he likes that it prevents any blemishes from even taking place. At 5% Benzoyl Peroxide the product is not so low it does not perform well or so high that it peels and dries your face out.

IMAG1602

Clear Proof Oil-Free Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin (3 oz.):

  • Retails for: $18.00

I have more moisturizers than I wish to count but the dilemma is always there, do I lather up and break-out or just skip (mostly light pats) and then go to make-up? Solution for me, I mixed this moisturizer with my foundation and got the best application and when I washed my face, no pimples! I was left with a light finish that lasted all day and I love how my skin looks. The surface is smooth and not too matte that I look like I'm getting an early start on Halloween or not too greasy, that I shine brighter than the sun! Perfection. My Husband's take on the moisturizer......well, he would have to had to stick around because he heard anything lotion-y and he bails. What is it with guys thinking every moisturizer means greasy? On day three I was able to hunt and capture him to convince him to just dab his forehead. He claimed his skin was going to suffocate but I can report the man still sports a forehead, so no skin was lost.

[gallery ids="3961,3960"]

Key Ingredients (as listed from the site):

Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are both recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and U.S. dermatologists as effective acne-fighting ingredients. So what makes them different?

  • Salicylic acid acts like an exfoliant to promote the easy removal of dead skin cells. As such, it helps keep pores unclogged and reduce the buildup of P. acnes bacteria.

  • Benzoyl peroxide (BPO), on the other hand, is an oxygen-releasing ingredient that kills bacteria. P. acnes bacteria flourish when there’s a lack of oxygen, like in a clogged pore. By creating an oxygen-rich environment, BPO can help reduce the number of P. acnes bacteria that can cause lesions to form. It also can help in dissolving the buildup of dead skin cells.

I (we) was very happy and have continued to use the kit.  The "must-haves" would be the toner and the treatment gel for me.  Those two really make the difference but because they all work in unison towards fighting those nasty blemishes that appear at the worst time (like anytime they are welcomed but you know what I mean), I would purchase all 4 as a kit for the best value.  I did see Mary Kay has a "Pore-Purifying Serum" that is part of the Clear Proof line.  I hope to try that in the future too!

~Nothin' But Love for These Treats~

Red-Logo

Everyone loves cookies. Everyone. If you are some kind of space alien who doesn't love cookies, boy howdy have you been reading the wrong blog. I never pass up a chance to try a cookie or three, so when Nothin' But Foods offered up their granola cookies during summer diet time, I said "Thank you, sir, may I have another!". What's a few more crunches and a couple more minutes on the elliptical machine when it comes to cookies, amirite?

∼♥∼

IMAG1463

I really stepped in it, though, because these are goooooooooood. Like, "Ohmahgawd, I ate how many?!" good. When one thinks of granola cookies, you tend to think of hard, dry, crumbly, crunchy cookies that don't taste like much. I am thrilled to report that nothing could be further from the truth here. Chewy, moist, bursting with flavor is what Nothin' But's granola cookies are. I got to try both the Chocolate Coconut Almond and the Cherry Cranberry Almond varieties, and I'm hard pressed to pick a favorite between the two. But I have zero hesitation telling you that these are, hands down, far and away the BEST granola cookies I have ever had. Don't just take my word for it though. Hubby doesn't like either coconut or granola, and I had to hide the bags before he polished them off before I could review them. That's how good they are.

IMAG1614-1-1

"Food from a kitchen Not a lab". Nothing But Premium Foods boasts "100% Natural, non-GMO, gluten free deliciousness, with no fillers, eggs, butter, and made in an kitchen not a lab", and they deliver in spades. 2 cookies are only 120 calories, with only 0.5 grams of saturated fat per serving, all while delivering 2 grams of dietary fiber and 3 grams of protein. And here's the trumpet card: You know, have heard of, and can pronounce every ingredient. Almonds. Oats. Honey. Cranberries. Cherries. Sea salt. Cinnamon. Vanilla. Semi-Sweet Chocolate. Espresso powder. I love when I don't need a chemistry book to know what I'm eating. I love that I probably have 90% of these things in my pantry already. I love that it's good enough for breakfast, yet tasty enough for dessert.

IMAG1609-1-1-1

Did I mention they make snack bars too? In the above flavors as well as Ginger Lemon Cashew and Peanut Butter Banana Chocolate? Yeah, hands off, hubby. Or you'll lose a finger. These are MINE. There's gift assortments if he's interested, and behaves.

Since 2008, Nothin' But Foods has been making fantastic, wholesome treats, and putting the others to shame. Started by Jerri Graham after she got tired of processed, fake and nasty "foodstuffs" and wanting something better for her daughter, she decided to fill a niche in the market by making something good and making something real. She started small and grew with word of mouth and dedication. It's gotten to be a chore to find real foods in the the center isles of the markets. So much processed, shelf stable junk passed off as food. Jerri started in her kitchen making these with love, and it shows in the quality, flavor, and simplicity. There is an old adage that says "Do one thing, and do it well". So, well done, Nothin' But Foods. Well done indeed.

Klout: Completely Bare Hair Removal Products #Review #CompletelyBareSummer

IMG_20140717_154659

Get beach-beauty ready with completely bare!

Got another Klout Perk and this one is package that has four products from Completely Bare.  CB is a line of products that I noticed recently being stocked at our local Target. Completely Bare makes hair removal........well, more likable and less of a chore, which I thought was not possible. I love Summer but I don't enjoy what it takes to achieve perfectly bare skin that is nice enough to show. CB takes the hassle away, so I am always up for making the shaving, waxing, plucking.......I wish I could torch them off experience just a little nicer. No matter how much we shave, "they" always grow back!

IMG_20140717_155153

It's a numbing and cooling spray that can be used before or after you remove unwanted hair. I use the Tria Laser and can say that I do yelp when it comes to the bikini area no matter how low I have the intensity, so I feel every zap. I came to the conclusion that it hurt if I am dialed down to 1 so might as well make the pain worth it and get faster results by just going full power to level 5.....the thought made sense but that zap made me question my bravery! Let's say I underestimated. I used the numbing spray and I still feel the zap but the yelp is not there except for a few super sensitive areas. I'll take it! I now can brave through it and just keep telling myself it's for a good cause :) My spray was leaking due to shipping damage (nozzle was hit and it keeps oozing) , so that is why it's in a baggy but I could still use what was left.

Product Retails: For about $9.99

IMG_20140717_155628

I have told my leg hairs that many times but they don't listen. They have a mind of their own and I think some are even possessed, or maybe one day I was driving and cut the wrong person off and they now have a voodoo doll made of my me, in form of a topiary. I shave and they return sooner than in my opinion they should. My Voodoo Master must be using Miracle Grow! No matter what I try to barter with, my hairs are loyal to my voodoo doll owner. In comes Completely Bare with a potion that makes them listen. More of a lotion that does two jobs, moisturize and it's laced with a hair inhibitor. Me likey already! I have tried this before from another brand and my hairs laughed at it. Not this time! Results show after 28 days of continuous use, so my magic potion has powers. I have wasted a month doing less than rubbing lotion on my legs and it works......so I claim my voodoo doll back. Mine!

Product Retails: For about $9.99

IMG_20140717_155320

Love the names because the products do perform like they are called. These pads are not like the acne pads of before, so don't worry. These do kill bacteria with salicylic acid but also have glycolic acid to gently exfoliate and most importantly, help prevent the bumps and ingrowns from even happening. That's Blasting in my book! I also used them on my legs and other problem areas and they work! No bumps and much better than picking, causing a scar, and without even getting the satisfaction of plucking the hair that caused the trouble!

Product Retails: For about $9.99

 _20140717_155813

These strips are ready to use, no heating required and the kit contains everything you need.

Kit Includes: 42 wax strips in total: 12 body strips; 18 bikini/underarm strips; 12 face strips; 6 completely off towelettes

You simply rub the strip gently between you hands to create heat, apply, and pull when it has set just a bit. Some areas you will find some wax reside left behind but nothing the towlettes can't take care of.

Product Retails: For about $12.99

  • Overall Results:

Overall, I was very happy with the performance of the top three products and found the wax strips performed better than most brands but some areas were tricky to wax due to the shape/size but I blame myself because I was not familiar. This is how I am at first with any wax removal product until I know what piece and/or shape works where. I like that there is finally a line of products that make the task of looking girly much easier! Thank you CB and Klout for this awesome perk!

Naturo Sciences: Colon Cleanse Capsules #Review

IMAG1587

I was a little wary of taking a product named "Colon Cleanse" and regretting it in the morning but I was so wrong! Look at the ingredients and they are as natural as can be and I already add Flax Seed to my yogurt every morning. The product is made of ingredients that help aid digestion but in a kinder way. This is not like the OTC pills you take and then wake-up and need to hurry to find a bathroom. In the 3 weeks of taking these pills; 1 every evening with 8 ounces of water, I never had any ill effects. You are just helping your system digest easier.....sort of like if you took fiber but no cramps, bloating, or urgency to go. I love this product and especially for those days I did not have the time to eat as I should have. This pill helps me reboot my system and feel like I should the following day (i.e. normal). A great add-on product to take and you will feel better and more like you should!

Indications:
Naturo Sciences Colon Cleanse allows you to Detoxify and Cleanse your body of waste and toxins that can leave you looking and feeling bloated, sluggish and not quite yourself.

Naturo Sciences: Garcinia Cambogia Pure #Review #Fitness

IMAG1586 (1)

I had heard and even passed several end-caps that featured this product. I was always unsure but I did my homework. Garcinia Cambogia, is a tropical plant that has a fruit that is similar in shape to a round squash/pumpkin. The skin of the fruit is rich in Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA). This HCA is a (derivative) citric acid, which is suppose to help with weight loss by suppressing your appetite. I used the product for 3 weeks and with exercise and increasing my water intake, I did find the product helped with digestion and giving me that "full feeling". I found that taking it (one pill) 30 minutes before a meal and with 2 glasses of water, I tended to not be so hungry. The combination of the pill, drinking more water and also exercising yielded results more visually than on the scale. My waist is smaller as are my thighs and hips. The scale only reflects 3 pounds lost but I was more happy fitting looser in my jeans and going down one size on my belt. I don't care about numbers......I care about results and I like that these capsules do not make me jittery or even interfere with my medications. It's 100% natural and I prefer a weight loss that is slow because I want to keep the weight off and this is the safest way I could find for me to do it.

Indications:

  • Take 1 pill 30 minutes before eating a meal.

  • For maximum effectiveness, you can take 2 pills before each meal.  Do not take more than 6 capsules in a 24-hour period.

Ingredients:

  • Potassium 500mg

  • Calcium 200mg

  • Garcinia Cambogia 1000mg (75%) Hydroxycitic Acid

I just seem to not be able to shed those 10 pounds I so desire to do so but this is helping because I eat right already, was drinking water (8 glasses+) but I peaked.  Eating is a trick I already had down and even committing to smaller portions and a low calorie and fat diet.  I actually enjoy eating like a bunny! I even increased my vegetable only days to 3 days but I would see a 1 pound difference that would return the minute I drank more water the following day.  At the end of the day, when you have hit that wall and just need 10 to 15 pounds to lose (hey, I want an extra 5 I can play with), I personally have found moving (exercising) is the key because by this time you probably have the "diet thing" covered and it's when moving and how you move will make a difference.

BzzAgent: Purina Beyond Natural and Grain Free Dog Food in Adventure, Tuna and Egg Recipe #Review

IMAG1453

My dog eats like a cat!

No, not cat food but loves things that cat's like when it comes to foods and even toys. I still don't walk into the Pet Store where she found joy with that feather toy made for cats because to see a 55 pound dog playing with it made her the only thing people were staring at when all I did was come in for treats.

She also loves Salmon, Sword Fish and shrimps to crab so when this dog food, which was sent as part of BzzAgent campaign said Tuna and Egg.....it was made for her. She loves it and I love that she is happy and no feathers were hurt :) The food is reasonably priced for being a "no grain" variety and that makes me love it more. I find she goes potty less, less gas, and just more pure energy that sometimes I miss the dog that thinks everyday is a lounge day. She plays more and that is worth it in my book, when you see results!

What is in this no-grain Dog Food:

How Much to feed when it comes to to a no-grain food:

IMAG1454

Actual Results:

I witnessed our dog getting a shiner coat that is not oily like with other feeds that have added fats that deliver shine, but leaves your poor pet so greasy that you cringe petting them.  Our dog did get a slight fishy breath after eating her meal but not so bad and it did lessen as time passes.  I noticed the energy level went up and we actually had to slow her down in these hot Summer days we have been experiencing but that usually means a dip in the pool for her.  No stomach problems and eating grass is a thing she does not engage in as often as before, so I think her meals settle better.  I recommend trying one bag for yourself and see the difference for yourself!  A version for cats is also made so the kitties did not get left out on the fun :)

100% Natural Just Fruit Bars are all right with me!

JustFruit-Logo

I can vividly remember walking with my parents through many a supermarket's produce sections, and seeing the fruit rolls cleverly merchandised there along side the fruit from whence it came. And while those rolled, pressed fruit pancakes were yummy, they were quickly replaced by processed, preservative laden junk they scarcely resembled the natural fruity goodness of roll-ups gone past.

IMAG1032

Enter Gorge Delights, Inc.'s 100% Natural Just Fruit bars. The first thing you notice is the ingredient list. Fruit and fruit juice concentrate. That's it. No binders, fillers, caking agents, or science experiments that make my google spit out complex molecular formulas describing what should resemble and taste like food. Even if it really doesn't anymore.

IMAG1034

Gorge Delight changed the landscape here going back to nature with these tasty treats. So many flavors, flavor combinations and treats, it's hard to pick only one as my favorite, let alone just review one bar at a time. See, I was kinda a bad girl, and nibbled each bar. Hubby took great big hubby-sized chunks out that he called "bites'. They are good, good for you, natural, look yummy, and be baked with ;-) So I'll do one big Ãœber-review.

[gallery type="rectangular" ids="3874,3875,3876,3877,3878,3879,3880,3881" orderby="rand"]

It's also nice that the fruit claimed in the front is the fruit listed on the reverse. Far too often I had fallen prey to labels shouting out "Berries!" "Pomegranate!" "Tropical fruits!" and the turn it around to see apple juice, pear juice and white grape juice making up the bulk of the product, with a token spritz of whatever they claimed on the front. Not so with Gorge Delight. You see Apple-Blueberry on the front, you see apple and blueberry listed on the back. No more bait-n-switch, and I love that. Cranberries, cherries, blueberries, strawberries raspberries, pears and apples. That's it. How nice is that? And each one tastes better than the last. No oily fingers, no cellophane, just fruity goodness free of added sugars, wheat, dairy, nuts, gluten or added salts. No preservatives, gmo-free, fat free, soy free and made the USA. There's nothing to not like. Each 40 gram bar is only 140 calories to boot. Almost to good to be true, but thankfully very true. I don't even crave the old fruit rolls any more. How 'bout them apples (and pears, and blueberries, and raspberries, and cranberries, and cherries...)?

Swaggable: Immune Perfect Continuous Active Hydration/Antioxidant Moisturizer #Review #Frownies

IMAG1348

Oh, Frownies.......this is company that has been around for ages and has a line of products that is suppose to turn back the clock. I recall the "stickers" they would sell and you were suppose to apply them at night to achieve what they called "smoother" results because the appliques prevented you from moving your face while moisturizing. Unsure how much I move my facial muscles at night but I would think super moisturizing problem areas is a way to go minus all the sticker mess. I can see why the beauty line has changed and evolved with the times. That being said, "new and improved", is not always the answer and especially when I feel the early versions over touted the results.

I received a small sample packet from Immune Perfect, which contained the product Continuous Active Hydration but seems now they changed the name to Antioxidant Moisturizer (so I have a former version labeled packet?). The Ultimate creation to combat wrinkles and cellular damage is then listed below the title. So does this prevent, correct, or alter my skin cells? Unsure how a facial cream could achieve such a thing and especially after breaking down the ingredient list.

IMAG1350

Ingredients (as listed on packet but the site listed Avena Sativa Kernel oil): Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis) (and Water Polymer Complex), Natural Vitamin E, Amino Acids, Phenols Phospholipid Complex, Cyclomethicone, Phenyltrimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Water, Soluble Melanin

1. We know Aloe and it's moisture properties, so that one I am skipping and so far Frownies scores for not selling me mostly water even though Water Polymer Complex follows..

2. Avena Sativa Kernel oil (Whole Wheat oil)- The Avena portion of the name sounds closely to the name Aveeno, and their main ingredient is delivering the power of the oats so that is why the name resembles. The oil is extracted from whole wheat oats and is rich in phospholipids and glycolipids. These membrane lipids deliver fatty acids but the good ones, not the trans fat ones. High in antioxidants, amino acids and also Vitamin E. Oat oil is very shelf stable and this is why it's used in many beauty products. Low in cost but does hold moisture well, so a product you would be happy to find in a body lotion and/or facial cream. The ingredient will not create magic but because of it's simple and nourishing structure, you will find that areas that may be red and/or inflamed will calm after application and hydrate. A great way to get moisture to dry and irritated skin.

3. Cyclomethicone- Is a silicone and base ingredient. Think of the base that keeps the product whipped and this is what this compound does. It keeps the beauty product blended without the need of shaking and perfect for a product that is placed in a jar versus a bottle or pump. The product never enters pass the upper living cells, so it stays suspended above and cannot enter the cell's membrane. The molecules are too large, so the product stays on the top layer of the epidermis.

4. Propylene Glycol- Is mineral oil, an alcohol produced by fermentation of yeast and carbohydrate and considered a synthetic. It is pretty much the white bread slice in a soup, the ingredient's job is to absorb water. Keep the product rich and at a desired consistency.....so keeps your cream, well creamy :)

5. Phenyl trimethicone- another silicone and this one works as a way to slow down evaporation. Think of pouring water in a bucket and how quick you would hit the bottom. Now, think if the bucket had sand! The water would take longer to reach the bottom and take longer to fade. This silicone makes sure that soft and moist feeling stays on top of your skin.

6. Phenoxyethanol- a simple preservative. It kills bacteria and stabilizes the formula it is in. Frownies comes in a jar and we know how jars attract bacteria, so this is a form of antibacterial. It also helps extend the shelf life. This is also an ingredient associated with irritations......oh, and labeled as a formaldehyde-releasing preservative and also found to have neurotoxin potential.

7. Water-Soluable Melanin- As per the patent filed (1991) by John M. Pawelek and Seth J. Orlow, the melanin is also useful for providing a sun-screen to mammalian skin and hair, to treat post-inflammatory hypo- and hyperpigmentation, to tint glass and plastic, to protect industrial materials against ultraviolet damage, and as a coloring agent in foodstuffs such as coffee, tea, soda, whiskey and liquors. So this could be what colors the cream brown in frownies (as stated by them- carmel color because of the natural ingredient, water soluable melanan, that brings out your skins natural color and beauty). It may also be what may helps protect materials (your skin) from UV damage (aka- sunscreen) but who knows the SPF that is really there if any.

IMAG1597

Verdict:

In conclusion, the power remains in the oat oil and it has power but I don't feel (in my opinion) it supports the entire claims made by Frownies. Yes, it moisturizes and has several silicone properties and oils that help keep the potion floating and stable.  The preservative kills it for me as do many of the other ingredients.  My sample size at 4 ml did not help deliver any results due to the limit when it comes to number of applications, but then again I'm a science girl (even though I won't botox myself).  I expect results! I'm all for science but the friendly kind that keeps me looking my best minus the neurotoxin potential. I think I'll stick with Aveeno on the legs (cheaper and it works) and oats with my breakfast, plus some antioxidant rich fruit that will help me from within to feel and look better :)

Swaggable: Alive Reef Safe Sunscreen from Sea Kind #Review

IMAG1596

Sea Kind makes several products for the face and body, from sunscreens to bath salts. I received a tube of the Alive Reef Safe Sunscreen and liked that the product is advertised as being 100% natural. It's a good start for my skin and especially with this summer being in the pool a little more than usual. The formula provides 20% Zinc Oxide and is broad-spectrum, protecting your skin from UVA/UVB rays. The tube came with zero information when it came to contents and oddly the product had no marker when it came to SPF. I know! A sunscreen tube that does not reflect the coverage of SPF was a first for me but this is why we have google :)

I seek and I find that Sea Kind makes only one sunscreen formula and it comes in SPF 30. You won't see the number in the description on the product's page and ready for ordering, but if you put your mouse over the bottle's image....viola!

  • Naturally Derived Ingredients (from the website):
ZINC OXIDE 20%, PURIFIED WATER, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE, COCONUT OIL, CAPRIC CAPRYLIC TRIGLYCERIDES, SORBITAN SESQUIOLEATE, CASTOR OIL, POLYGLYCEROL-10 LAURATE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, SUNFLOWER OIL, JOJOBA OIL, TOCOPHEROLS, ACOPHYLLUM NODOSUM. HYALURONIC ACID, IRON OXIDES, PHENOXYETHANOL, ETHYL HEXYL GLYCERIN, PROPRIETARY BLEND OF FRUIT, HERB AND FLOWER ESSENTIAL OILS COMPLYING WITH THE ISO 9235 NATURAL STANDARD.

  • Price Point: $24.95 and again you have to put your mouse over the bottle's image to see that it's for a bottle that supplies 3.0 fluid ounces.

IMAG1595

Results:

Being a Southern California native, I have tried mostly every brand and formula readily available. I look for a product that does not clog my pores, is long lasting and simply works. I always found the first two features present but working on my fair skin was always the issue. I can start tanning rather quickly with SPF 50 on me but not all are created equal. Looking lobster red is not cute no matter the bikini you just bought and let's not get into how bad it is health wise and much less how it feels that evening and the following days. I was weary of trusting a SPF 30 product to protect me enough. I have even given up on being tint/oily free and found peace having a white film as long as I could swim and stroll without looking like a sea creature but I decided to test this out. You will notice the "Non-Nano" on the bottle and this means the product will not absorb into your skin. As stated on the site, "The 200 namometer size particles avoids the risk of absorption in the body caused by smaller nano particles". The formula also says water resistant and I used the every 80 minutes rule when it came to reapplication because again this was not stated on the product or site.

Verdict:

I can state that the product is light, leaves a slight oil shimmer but not even close to calling it oily. It just looks like you applied a light lotion and my face remained protected with zero clogs or blemishes, so zero penalties for trying not to burn. I tanned but no redness so protection was there and this was being in the pool and surviving 3 tidal waves that my wonderful Husband claims 2 were pure accident but since I had already assigned blame, the third one was "just because" he was already getting the evil eye from me.

Final Verdict:

I like the product and wish I could have tried it longer but my test tube really satisfied 2 face applications. I like the formula and it's claims. Being 100% natural is rare and working is rarer for me. I just leave it in your hands when it comes to paying almost $25 for 3.0 ounces. My application was light on the second reapply, and that equated to using .33 fluid ounces for 160 minutes of pool time and just on my face. I would purchase this to be seriously blemish and irritant free on the face but can't suggest taking the plunge for total body application unless you don't see the sun much and can make the tube stretch.

Swaggable: Harvest Snaps SnaPea Crisps #Review

IMAG1598

I will be using the 1 to 5 point system where 5 is superb in taste/flavor and texture, and where 1 is pretty much saying don’t put it in your mouth :)

  • Snap Pea Crisps (One .75 ounce package): I have seen these being sampled at Costco but never actually stood in line to try one. It’s pretty much Green Peas that are lightly salted and baked. A healthier way to snack because you get less fat than potato chips but this treat also is a good source of fiber. I love peas of any kind so I am biased on this one. I did like the texture but was not super fond of the aftertaste. It was not pleasant and left my mouth lacking moisture but now I know to pass versus buying on these. I also noticed that most in the bag are crushed and powdery, so you get bits with some salt but again that bitter after-taste turns me off.  Unfortunately, I rate these snacks at 100 calories a pack a 2 because only the caloric count is favorable and that they are baked.

Swaggable: Taylors of Harrogate Earl Grey Tea #Review

IMAG1347

I have always been partial to Black Tea and to me it's the espresso of the tea world. Like coffees, I still want the smooth taste that is bold with not a significant amount of bitterness or harsh notes that are too acidic. Taylors of Harrogate's Earl Grey delivers just that and you got to love a classic like this version. It's the anytime and any season cup of tea. With this tea, you will pick-up citrus notes due to the Bergamot Orange fruit essential oil added to the blend. I could not only smell the beautiful lemon notes but you can also taste them, so it's not a tea blend that smells better than it tastes.

  • Taste Test-
I did not have to add much to my fresh cup of tea and felt that just a touch of Orange Blossom honey was enough. I skipped on the milk because I rarely ever add it to my teas but it was suggested in the instructions.  I enjoyed it and it is definitely an Earl Grey version I would prefer over most brands.

IMAG1345

The Taylors of Harrogate tea company makes a large variety of teas and blends and some are sold loose and others are sold bagged. They also have seasonal teas that are available for a limited time and lets not forget they also have coffees. This tea exporter has been providing the U.K. with teas since 1886 and definitely is a company you can depend on to deliver excellent quality because when you have over 120 years of serving the finest teas, you sort of know what you are doing :)

I've made a SoulKu Connection

SoulKu_Logo

After a short stay-cation I have jumped back into my blog with both feet, and I hope to hit the ground running with SoulKu. I love their intimate approach to "feel-good" jewelry and their dedication to sustainability and human interaction. So let's begin.

IMAG1588

"Soul-Full of Light" is the theme of this batch of beauties, and. I'm just over the moon with how cute, delicate these little pieces are. I got to take 3 of them out for a test run, and my favorite has got to be Cracked Agate. IMAG1589As the card it was attached to states, it's full of love and positivity and is steeped in "positivity, self-confidence and clarity". While I can't directly attribute the good vibes I felt to the necklace specifically, I can say with absolute clarity that it certainty didn't hurt in those steps either.

IMAG1591My second favorite has got to be the Azure Blue Crystal. And while the card purports to "carry the energies of calm, inspiration and spirituality", I can attest to the fact that it's just darling around my neck, so the rest to me is a big bonus. Faceted to reflect the light, it's a sight to behold on bright, sunny California days.

Last but by no means least is the Noreena Jasper. The card it was attached to says that it's imbued with the "power to IMAG1590support,grounding, release of negative energies, and freedom", I'll state that it's also imbued with a rich earthy beauty that just looks too cute around your neck. Almost like a cacao bean, I had to be careful hubby didn't try to snack on it.

All three pieces come on a golden gossamer thread with metal clasps, and on thoughtful, inspirational cards, and in your choice of 16", 17", or 18" lengths. 10% of each sale goes directly to Women for Women International, a worthwhile charity if there ever was one. I highly recommend clicking that link to learn more.

IMAG1069-1 (1)

IMAG1071-1Like every other SoulKu piece sold, as well as the previous ones I've reviewed, the emphasis is on making, nurturing and maintaining personal relationships. Too often we get caught up in our digital lives, and forget that we're physical creatures that crave touch, talk, and interaction, on a physical and spiritual level. With all the hustle and bustle in our lives, sometimes we can unintentionally forgo what should  matter the most to us:. Each other. SoulKu wants to remind us, with their jewelry, Eco-friendly cards, and simple envelopes that in the end, reaching out and touching someone matters more that whatever "update" our myriad of devices tell us are happening all day, every day. Thanks for that, SoulKu. I hope each and every one of you has the chance to be "reminded" by them as well.
