Swaggable: The 17 Day Diet Book by Dr. Mike Moreno Review

DSCN4434

Right about the month of March, whatever diet program I have been trying or testing has pretty much reached a point of.....well, boredom. I know it's a life-style change and thankfully I am usually only fighting off 10 to 15 pounds I want gone, but I call them my celebration pounds, because they return when there is a holiday or birthday. Why March? Well, it's my birthday month, as well as  my husband's, so this means cake. Call it cake pounds and as much as I want to blame the confectionery with happy sprinkles that hypnotized me, if I was not looking at it I would have never fallen under it's spell.

I received the 17 Day Diet book in late January and have read through it and the one thing I loved, is how Dr. Mike Moreno changes things up. Days, weeks, or even months do not play-out the same way for me so that also plays havoc on my diet. I sometimes under eat and other times over indulge, so this book has a more realistic approach to what I call R-E-A-L life. There are times I can do well for 2 weeks and then comes week #3 where I eat something someone brought over to I maybe did the unthinkable and had a real cheesy burger......with bacon and caramelized onions....some fries too. I obviously can't just get back on the same horse the next week because I sort of strayed but Dr. Moreno also brought exercise into the picture, whereas most of us want a "way to eat", or a pill to take to be the answer and only solution. It's like the relationship you truly wish will work but sooner or later you have to dump whatever and move on! I've moved on (thankfully not on Husband :) ) but definitely the  dreaming of the magic that never arrives. You got to move more and eat less but also eat smart!

DSCN4435

Dr. Moreno uses a program designed around 4 stages/cycles, each consisting of 17 days. No tricks and just simple methods:

  • Accelerate- The cycle where you lose weight rapidly and cleanse your body out. You start cutting out the things you already know you should not eat and what really just ends up starving your body, rather giving it "real energy". There is an optional fasting day in this stage.

  • Activate- In this cycle you start the metabolic burn, by having days your intake (caloric wise) will be high and others low.

  • Achieve- Here you learn about the smart way to eat and this where I mention previously about controlling the amount you eat, but also introducing new exercises.

  • Arrive- The combo stage where you enter the lifestyle of eating right and moving. Best explained, it's a combination of the previous cycles to help continue a healthy way of eating that will not only benefit you long term but you will be happier with how you feel and look.

Like many diet books, this also comes with recipes but you get over 50 of them! I liked that not all recipes were ultra expensive or hard on the pocket book. Yes, you have lean meats but most of them I found to be low in cost, especially if you shop smart. Dr, Moreno even discusses supplements, exercising when you travel and even holiday stress. Topics from alcohol consumption are addressed, and even a section on PMS! Like I said, pretty much everything is covered including specific medical conditions.

DSCN4436

I liked that the book was not only easy to read, as the author did not act like they found new miracles. Dr. Moreno found an easier way to apply what we all pretty much know already when it comes to diets and eating habits. The book was used as a manual at times, because it was easy to find information I could quickly reference on the topic I needed help on. Like, for example, when I was purchasing my supplements, I added Selenium and found I felt a positive difference. Most chapters have key points under the review section so you can take in the information as a whole or just go by what you want to read about......again, very adaptable.

Soul Journey: Welcome Spring with the Faith in Yourself Bracelet

SP32-20140221-024302

Our Soul Journey continues today with another jaw-dropper, "Faith in Yourself", featuring amazonite and aquamarine. For you March babies, this one is also on sale on Open Sky. ;-)

IMAG0365

Surprisingly, amazonite doesn't much come from the Amazon anymore (although you might find some on Amazon.com, tee-hee). No, after coming almost exclusively from Chelyabinsk, Russia it now comes primarily out of Colorado, USA. A type of microcline feldspar, it is easily fractured and therefore not so easy to work with. Sometimes called the "Stone of Courage", it empowers and embolden while tempering rash behavior a day soothing the soul. Lauded for healing and prosperity since Mesopotamia times, this is one to not be taken lightly.

But we're not done yet. This bracelet also features aquamarine, one of the" Precious Four" precious gems of this planet, the others being diamond, sapphire and ruby. Heady company indeed. A type of beryl (emerald is another) mined in Columbia and Brazil, this gem is the official gemstone of those born in March and is said to bestow peace, serenity and truth upon it's wearer. This is a powerful 1-2 punch of a bracelet, all the while just looking stylish and pretty on your wrist.

IMAG0364

Like all of Soul Journey's jewelry, this is hand made and woven with golden nylon thread, finished with jeweled ends and features 8mm faceted gems. Make to order in California, USA, this is a winner from tip to tip. From the Mini Power bracelet collection, this one is made to fit almost any wrist, and is fully adjustable from 7-9 1/2". Did I mention it's on sale on Open Sky? Like, right now? At around $40, there is NO reason to pass up on this little beauty. Go. Get it now. I'll still be here when you get back.

BzzAgent: Glade® PlugIns Scented Oil Customizables™ and Glade® Wax Melts Refill Packs #Review

IMAG0426 (1)

Everybody sometimes gets a funky house. Sour trashcans, All-Fried Fridays, heaping plates of brussel sprouts (aka "stinkberries" as hubby calls them). All of this creates funk. The kind you wake up in the morning, and go "Ew" over.

The lovely folks at BzzAgents must've had a few of those morning too, since the offered me a Glade campaign that included coupons for melts and a plug-in. Huzzah and hooray, because man, all the cooking I do around here has the house fun-KAY.

I'll start with the Glade Wax Melts. You'll need something to melt them in, but one little square goes a loooong way. I mean the whole house smells amazing! I was shocked at how long it lasted, how great it smelled, and how all that funk just went away. You get 8 cubes to a pack for less than three bucks! Are you kidding me? I chose "Cashmere Woods", because it was the tail end of winter and it just smelled dreamy in the package. If it tells you anything, I've already bought 4 more. Can you say "stockpile"?

DSCN4224

Next up is the plug-in, Glade Scented Oil Warmers Customizables. You get to pick 2 scents, or packs of pre-selected mixes, to fill your entire house with fragrance. The cute little plug-in alternates between fragrances so you never have a chance to GO " Ug, spiced apples AGAIN?". Did I mention it's adorable? It's adorable. Not the same-old same-old white, huge, honking "Look at me!" type, a delicate little flip up plug in that looks almost as nice as it smells. With a little doo-dad on the side to adjust the amount of fragrance it puts into the air (low, medium, and "I've been eatin' raw onions"), you get to customize your experience even further. Sometimes, with other plug-ins, I'd get a headache from the amount of atomized oil that gets put into the air. Not here. This one, this one's a keeper. And at $7.48 (starter kit) for up to 60 days of great smells, it's a true value. Plus, coupons abound.

You'll be doing yourself a huge favor picking up one or the other (or both! ;-) ), and then you can chop garlic, fry up bacon, or eat a plate of brussel sprouts until your little heart's content!

DSCN4226

Price Points: $2.98 for Wax Melts (pack of 8 count) and $7.48 for the Starter Kit in the Glade Plugins Customizables

Scents available in the Wax Melts:

  • Scents- Clean Linen, Hawaiian Breeze, Apple Cinnamon, Pure Vanilla Joy, Lavender & Peach Blossom, Red Honeysuckle Nectar, Lavender & Vanilla, Creamy Custard, Sunny Days, Cashmere Woods and Fresh Berries, Fresh Berries & Wild Raspberry, Hawaiian Breeze and Vanilla Passion Fruit, Jubilant Rose, Jubilant Rose & Lavender Peach Blossom, Vanilla Passion Fruit, and Wild Raspberry.

Influenster: Vaseline 24-Hour Men Spray Lotion #MenSpray

The hits keep on coming with Influenster. Next up: Vaseline has come out with a line dedicated just for Men with non-floral scents and formulas that have "man-staying power", like 24 hours moisture protection. You have lotions that dry in seconds but hydrate, leaving your skin feeling non-greasy, but still soft. I know many men skip on lotions but no lady wants to see or feel cracked skin......so here comes Vaseline with it's fast-drying formulas, giving you zero excuses on why a man should skip on skincare!

DSCN4553

Finally, a product that is not for me or the pup! Yes, I blog and I try to find products I can share or even just geared towards men but they are really hard to come by. I would so try a hammer and many times would even find it as a stress relieving tool, but I have yet to find the company that sets this lady up with such a tool and I would even take a mallet at this point! So, I may not be able to start hitting things but I can at least help in the skin department. Men sometimes act like toddlers when a lotion bottle is brought up. I hear claims of it smelling "girly" or the ever popular that the skin will feel "icky". Ummmm, dry and cracked skin is icky and I have seen some guys with let's say ashy knees and elbows!

Test Results:

In comes Vaseline to save the real icky skin with a light formula. We spray a leg and give it a try. Husband states it feels light and wet but quickly drys, leaving your skin feeling like nothing bad happened. I never knew applying lotion was so traumatizing but I'm thinking some Hubbies add drama to the mix! I noticed the skin color changed (it's alive!) but remain mum about how his skin now looks nourished and just focus on how it feels......like nothing happened. Hubby uses the 24 hour spray after showering and I hear everyday the spray going after he turns the water off. It goes on and on, day after day,  until I notice it on my shopping list, which hangs on the side of the fridge the words written, "Vas lotion MEN". This is a guy that tells me he is out of something when I ask to be told when he is low on stuff! I still have to make "emergency trips" to the store to pick-up deodorant because he swore he had an extra one that then disappears. I blame the invisible funk gnome that must be one clean smelling guy for the stash of extra deodorants, floss, to even shampoos that just go poof. In the end, I am glad for the hygiene help and finally a lotion that is "non-icky" and feels like nothing happened, but thankfully is working :)

Price Point: $7.99 for a 6.5 ounce can

Ingredients (as listed on the site): Water (Aqua), Isopropyl Myristate, Glycerin, Sorbitan Isostearate, Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Tapioca Starch, Fragrance (Parfum), Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Ammonium, Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Stearic Acid, Dihydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA.

Influenster: Red Rose Simply Indulgent Teas #SimplyIndulge

DSCN4546

Voxbox madness! The next one up in the parade is Red Rose Teas. Red Rose is a Canadian company, which has been making teas since the late 1800's. The Simply Indulgent line uses a black tea base combined with natural extract, which bring you wonderful dessert-like flavors like Lemon Chiffon, Creme Caramel to Peach Cobbler and even Cinnamon Bun. You can purchase the products in tea bag form or single serve cups. I received two flavors to try from the Simply Indulgent line, Creme Caramel and Lemon Chiffon.

Taste Test: I love teas and coffees and I happen to be fond of Black teas....they are the espresso of teas for me, since I tend to like a stronger and deeper brew. Seeing these and the flavors was like getting a dessert in a cup minus the bake time or the hefty calories.

  • Creme Caramel: I opened the bag while my water heated up and the tea appears very minced and fine. I was hoping to pick-up a sweet caramel or even a caramelized sugar scent, however nothing really came forward to my nose that made me think of the image featured on the front of the bag.....a cheesecake smothered with caramel sauce. I still proceeded and made the cup without adding any sweeteners. I left the tea steeping and noticed for being derived from black tea leaves, the cup's liquid was pretty light in color but I can report the color was like that of caramel. This is as caramel as anything got for me. The tea was simple and light, but not bold in taste. I did not pick up a pleasant taste and I even have some teas that are not straight out black, but blends prior to this one. It just did not deliver in the tea or caramel department. I added honey and just a touch hoping it would maybe help but I just tasted the honey I had added. I tried a second time with another bag and left it steeping a longer amount of time, but the bag really only has so much punch that it did not aid my quest in this creme caramel pursuit.

  • Lemon Chiffon: This is a decaffeinated blend and you see a pretty glowing yellow slice of lemon chiffon pie on the package. It even has a small dollop of whipped cream and a lemon zest shaving to compliment (aka: draw me in) the look. I again follow the directions and steep for 7 minutes, as it stated between 3 to 5 on the bag or until the desired strength. I went to the point the lemon smell was present to my liking! I added a small touch of honey and proceeded. This tea smelled like sweet lemons and very much like you would imagine before steeping and delivered the same results after. I thought I was a caramel girl but with Red Rose, I am definitely Chiffon-ing it! This one I liked.....this one I would buy. The black tea blend had the perfect strength and was not as powdery in texture as the caramel one. I enjoyed it and I felt it was worthy of the Simply Indulgent title!

Price Point: $4.49 for a carton that contains 20 tea bags

Ingredients (as listed on the site): You will read on the site that the tea comes from the finest tea estates, natural extracts, even rich undertones but other than being a black tea blend, you will find zero on the contents. I have no idea if the lemon has lemon oils, dried lemon zest, if it's a Meyer Lemon or anything and much less can be figured out on the Caramel. The packet, the site on-line.....nothing lists contents or ingredients.

DSCN4549

The price for 20 bags makes it worth trying. I kept in mind that this is a blend and the tea leaf is not loose but rather crushed to powder form in the packet. For a quick change or you just want a lighter black tea, Red Rose fits that spot nicely. Would I want the Caramel Creme to taste like advertised? Well, I never thought of such notes in a tea and even though I must admit I am heavy into the Fleur de Sel Caramels in any form.....maybe tea should be left alone there. I much rather have that slice of cheesecake with the caramel sauce featured on the packet! The Lemon Chiffon delivered in smell and taste so Red Rose is batting a 50/50 with me. I suggest keep that in mind when picking flavors.....make sure you have associated them with teas before like the cinnamon ones and you should be fine.

Influenster: John Frieda Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron Spray #3DaysStraightLove

DSCN4544

What, more VoxBox goodness? Why, yes, this time from John Frieda. John Frieda's Frizz Ease line has come out with a new product to help tame your locks when using a Flat Iron. The product comes in spray form for easy application and contains Keratin. Keratin is a natural protein, which is present in hair. The protein aids with dry time by shortening it and also helps tame your locks. The end result is less frizz and many people use such treatments and products with Keratin for it's restorative properties. I have been using a Flat Iron spray, so I was happy to test this one out and see how it performs. The spray is advertised as heat activated and also states it will help to protect your hair from the damage caused by such elements. John Frieda's Flat iron Spray gives you up to 3-Days of straighter hair (or less if you shampoo earlier) and you are left with a glossy and smooth finish.

DSCN4543

My Results:

My former Flat Iron spray does not contain Keratin but does work almost in the same manner, by being activated by heat and also serving as a protectant. The other difference is that the John Frieda brand may only be applied when hair is wet and this may be because of how the product works and the Keratin properties. I sprayed as directed, starting with 7 to 15 sprays. If your hairy is curlier, unruly, longer or just plain thicker. you will need to apply more sprays. My hair is long so I had to apply close to 17 sprays because I admit I lost count between 14 and on. The trigger is simple to push so not you will get a soar trigger finger and you then just simply comb your hair to get even distribution. You then use a hair dryer to blow dry your hair straight and then use the flat iron to finish. I did just that and between the new blow dryer and the spray, my hair was ready in 10 minutes to begin the flat iron process. John Frieda recommends you flat iron in sections for best results, something I already do so it was easy and familiar for me to proceed. My hair has zero when it came to the frizz factor and the scent is pleasant, not chemically. My hair had a natural healthy shine that looked glossy but not oily. Day two arrived and I looked like Day One, so I was happy. By Day 3 my hair was tame and even though I slept in a loose bun, I was still able to achieve a hair down look I was satisfied with.

Price Point: $9,99 for a 3.5 fluid ounce bottle

Ingredients (as listed on the site):

WATER, ALCOHOL, POLYSILICONE-9, HYDROLIZED KERATIN, BENZOPHENONE-4, STEARTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, BENZYL ALCOHOL, MALIC ACID, LACTIC ACID, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, FRAGRANCE, DISODIUM EDTA, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN

You get enough product to use and don't let the spray count deceive you. Yes, it's high but also light in application.  I also like that this product can be found at Target to Walgreen's.  Use a coupon and the price will be friendlier :)

Influenster: KISS Looks so Natural Lashes #KISSlashes

DSCN4536

Influenster is just whupping up on me with a pretty stick! Who doesn't want a little lash boost, hmmm? KISS Lashes provide users with an affordable and economical option without having to skimp on the latest lash technology. KISS lashes come in an array of looks to fit your needs from the natural with tapered ends, to the extravagant that will give you a gorgeous night look. I was able to try the "Sultry" look, model #60486/KFL04. The product advertises a natural look with a light and soft feel....almost like a feather. The product is also contact lens friendly and says the lashes will feel like your own!

My Results:
I have been a KISS fan for ages because I will not pay for a look that I may only wear for one evening, or when a brand allows you to achieve the same (or better) results without a heftier price tag. I noticed upon opening the package that the lashes not only look better than models before but they do feel soft and light when touched. I like how the set also tapers each lash "hair" but also has a tapering effect from small lashes by the inner eye, to a nice natural but longer flair towards the end. It's like getting that perfect mascara application without having to mess with a wand and goop. I used first a clear mascara on my own lashes and then applied the KISS lashes once my own lashes dried. Application was 100% successful on the first try. You just add the adhesive to the lash band, wait 30 to 40 seconds while you see the formula change to a slightly clearer color and it feels slightly tacky. I then slowly with a light touch applied the lashes to my lash line. They rest and go on like they know where they should be (nice slight arch in shape helps that) and I then held them on until I felt the adhesive formula dry. It was fast and I was set within 1 minute. I then used a liquid liner for a nice but lower-key "Cat Eye" look, since it was daytime.

DSCN4539

Price Point: $3.99 for 1 set (also comes with adhesive)

Ingredients (as listed on the site): 1 pair Strip Lashes (made in China)

The lashes feel like your own and sort of after you applied your first coat of mascara.....that is how light they feel. No tired lids from heavier and way too drastic lashes from before. The last thing you want is a sexy but droopy eye! KISS lashes gave me that little flair I want and a change in look without going overboard and looking like I plucked a feather duster, and you also do not go overboard in price.....something to flutter about :)

Influenster: Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask #PowerofPlants

DSCN4552 I recently got the opportunity to try some really nifty products, thanks to Influencer. Starting with Boots Botanics. Boots Botanics uses the "Power of Plants" for a more natural approach to beauty. The mask contains Oceanic minerals, plus active plant extracts like Willow bark, which is a natural source of Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid is part of the beta-hydroxic acid family and is found in many acne clearing products to anti-aging regimens. The acid helps refine skin's texture, lower inflammation (like an aspirin), and open clogged pores, helping you shed dead skin more rapidly. Continual use will produce a skin surface with smaller pores that is not constricted by clogs or bacteria, which causes blemishes.

My Results: I received this item in the #JadoreVoxBox from Influenster. I have heard of the Boots brand but have never tried any of their products. This was my first experience with the brand! The mask provides your skin with a deep clean using clay enriched with minerals. You are left with a purified clean surface, but the results are not over drying. The mask was able to clean my pores and remove any excess oils, plus I was left with pores that appeared smaller in size. My face was glowing and soft to the touch.

Price Point: $9.39 for 3.5 ounces

Ingredients (as listed on the site): Sea silt (Natural oceanic clay), Aqua (Water), Potassium sorbate, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, Salix nigra (Willow) bark extract DSCN4550 I was happy not only with the price point but a little product goes a long way. Application was simple, by just applying to clean skin and I left the product on for about 10 to 15 minutes. I dislike when masks over clean and get rid of not only the bad but the good, but this mask does not fall into that department. Over-stripping is not something I experienced at all! BzzAgent: Fiber One Protein Cereal in Cranberry Almond #Review

DSCN4125

I drink Cranberry juice on a daily bases and use the fresh fruit in baked goods even when it's not the Winter season. Cranberry in dried fruit form is something I enjoy by itself, on salads to even mixing what I call a "snack cup", with whole raw almonds and even sometimes a few peanut butter chips.

When I saw the second flavor in the box was Cranberry Almond....I felt this mix was made for me. That evening I took 1/2 a cup of yogurt and mixed in some cranberry preserves, so it could sit overnight and have that Cranberry punch I desire. I woke up the next morning and then just added a 1/4 cup of the Fiber One Protein cereal and it was perfect!

Fiber One's Protein cereals are made with sweetened granola so it goes beyond just the flakes. You get 10 grams of protein in every serving and this is a value with the addition of milk. The Cranberry Almond version has dried cranberries and small almond pieces. You also get 20% of your daily fiber intake.

DSCN4126

Nutritional Facts:
220 calories per one cup serving and it goes up to 260 with skim milk. You have whole grain oats, crisp rice and soy protein isolate to Corn Bran and Puffed Wheat. Lower in sodium than the Maple Sugar version, at 140 mg of Sodium and 16 grams of sugar. I found several undesirable ingredients like Caramel coloring and Corn Syrup listed and below is the link for you to review.

  • Full Nutrition Index Link-

http://www.fiberone.com/products/cereal/fiber-one-protein-cranberry-almond

Cranberry Taste Test:
I did find the Cranberries are not as bountiful and when you catch one, it is very sweet but still good when it comes to moisture. I barely picked up the Almond pieces and chunks in the mix. I did find when I added more of the dried fruit and some whole raw almonds to the cereal, it was then to my satisfaction and again the additions help mellow out the sweetness. Since the cranberries were super sweet as was the cereal, I did not eat this box with milk but with plain yogurt. I even had some with frozen vanilla flavored yogurt in one of our many non-winter days we have been enjoying in California. I thought this mix would be my favorite but because it lacked in quantities of fruit and nuts listed, I tended to be left with a sweet mix that tasted more like brown sugar coated cereal. I also noticed as I reached the bottom of the box, the cereal was finer and more crushed, so the texture was not as crunchy as the Maple Brown Sugar variety......almost mealy.   I don't think this is a bad variation but I will just stick to adding cranberries and whole almonds to the Maple Brown Sugar & Pecan version for a bowl that is more to my liking :)

BzzAgent: Fiber One Protein Cereal in Maple Brown Sugar #Review

DSCN4124

I love Maple Brown sugar flavored treats from cereals, bars to even a bowl of oatmeal, so when BzzAgent and Fiber One had this campaign......well, I was hoping to get in and so happy I did.

I still eat cereal regularly but not always with milk. I go with my cravings and love switching it up from Coconut milk, Almond milk to just regular old fashioned....well, cow milk. There are times I even mix milks just because I can! Other times I use cereals as my "granola imitation" combined with yogurts and dried fruits. It's like eating a delicious but healthy parfait.

Fiber One's Protein cereals are made with sweetened granola so it goes beyond just the flakes. You get 10 grams of protein in every serving and this is a value with the addition of milk. The Maple Brown sugar version has Pecans, so you get a nice crunch and the nuts were fair in size. You also get 20% of your daily fiber intake.

Nutritional Facts:
220 calories per one cup serving and it goes up to 260 with skim milk. You have whole grain oats, crisp rice and soy protein isolate to Corn Bran and Puffed Wheat. 150 mg of Sodium and 16 grams of sugar. I found several undesirable ingredients like Caramel coloring and Corn Syrup listed and below is the link for you to review.

Maple Brown Sugar Taste Test:
I found the texture nice on it's own but did find it more on the sugar sweet side than the Maple side. The bites that contained pecans helped to mellow out the sweetness. When added with milks, I did notice it did not play well with my Vanilla flavored Almond Milk, so I stuck to plain. I found it was better with yogurt because of the crunch and the yogurt tends to dilute the sweetness. I usually just purchase a large container of plain greek yogurt that lasts a little under a week, so making this mix was great. I added almonds on certain days and on others even added a banana with flax seeds. I did enjoy the cereal and  how versatile the it can be, just wish it was a touch less sweet but it's nothing you can't fix!

BzzAgent: Kroger/Ralph's Supermarket Private Selection Gourmet Cookies

SP32-20140314-161142

As a baker and cooking enthusiast, I sometimes will seek out a day off. This means I resort to someone else filling in for me and in the cookie department, BzzAgent and Ralph's Markets came to my rescue.

In my home the only cookie that usually gets made every other week is my double chocolate chip and chocolate chunk creation, so I am very particular about how a cookie needs to measure up and in came Ralph's with a wide selection to choose from.

You have:

  • White Chocolate Macadamia Nut – White chocolate chunks meet crunchy macadamia nuts, in nice buttery dough.

  • Ultimate Chocolate Chunk – A large amount amount of rich chocolate chunks in every bite that will make you forget you had a chocolate craving in the first place.

  • Turtle Brownie – A brownie-like cookie, which is loaded with gooey caramel and pecans. You get two desserts in one with this baby!

  • White Chocolate Coconut Almond – White chocolate chunks with sweet coconut and almond slivers. It's a tropical flavor to get you out of the everyday rut.

In this campaign, I had issues loading my digital coupon for the free product onto my card even though it was registered but after several attempts, Ralph's finally rewarded me but only after I had visited the store. I head off to the store to hunt for 3 of the cookies I know I will be trying. I make it to my local Ralph's bakery and unfortunately all that was available was the Ultimate Chocolate Chunk and the White Chocolate with Macadamia nuts varieties, but I buy what they have.

Ultimate Chocolate Chunk Taste Test:
I must admit my curiosity was piqued so I figured I'd try a Ultimate Chocolate Chunk cookie in the car. I may not have milk but I have water! The cookies look soft and gooey but when I opened the box, I could smell the sweetness from all the sugars, but not the chocolate. I see some chunks but they are chunks more described like misshapen chocolate chips, small in size and not even medium in size. I would say these look more like rejected chocolate chips that did not make the cut! I bite and find that the cookie crumbles but it's because it's hard......like over baked. Due to the cookie being high in sugar and not chocolate, you get a burned flavor from the fats so I left this ultimate experience to one bite. My Husband bailed on trying the cookie at all after he "saw my face", so this cookie did not make a good first impression at all! So sad :( I had the cookie box on the counter and when anyone tried them, they quickly asked, "where did you buy these"? Let's say it was not because they were liked and they were seeking to repurchase, but more to avoid getting these cookies themselves.

White Chocolate & Macadamia Nut Taste Test:
I know we are in a drought in California but it seems that includes a shortage on White Chocolate and Macadamia nuts too. Again the package says chunks and the idea is sort of stretched because these are chips all the way.....nothing chunk or misshaped about them. These chocolate chips at least are not from the rejected chip factory like the Ultimate Chocolate chips cookies were. These are from the 2 chips-per-cookie ONLY factory! Yes, we counted and it took some effort with the mealy base the cookie had. The nuts were so chopped up that they seemed to add a "meal" effect versus just tasting and crunching. You get zero crunch and they are sort of soggy in nature. Never had a macadamia nut behave this way so we figured we got the "misbehaved" nuts in this cookie. Not worth the calories, we just put our white flag up and did not pass the 2 bites we had with these cookies.

Price Point: $3.99 for a box of 6 cookies

Cookies can usually be saved and even made into ice cream sandwiches when they go array. These could not! That is saying something because this was always my go-to idea when a cookie met heat for too long or just did not bake up as it should. Both cookies had one thing in common.....super dry and did not taste like the flavor listed on the box, just sweet. Maybe Ralph's Bakery was having an "off day" but I also noticed the bakery was empty and not super stocked, or moving product as some store are at that hour. I was in the market at peak time but no one was buying the sweet goods from the store. I hope these improve because they sound delicious in description but just did not deliver in taste and texture.

FIE: KQC Thermal Shine Spray for Hair

We love our hair. We try to protect (or repair) it all the time. Sometimes we need a little help in the "protection" department. That's where KQC comes in. I received this product to try out with the flat-iron and after almost a month of using it, I love it. The product not only protects the hair from heat damage but comes with added benefits, like leaving your locks shiny and smooth. My hair has a soft feel to the touch but also looks silky after use. I was concerned with product build-up, since this tends to show up after several applications and with long term use. So, I made sure to really try the spray out before writing up my review. The last thing you want to do is having to use a harsh shampoo to strip your hair clean from the spray, plus it tends to take away your own natural oils. None of that has been needed with the KQC Thermal Shine spray.  My hair feels and remains clean after application and when I wash my hair, it is left naturally healthy. This where you can tell if a product worked, protecting your hair from any heat elements. I can say I am a fan of the spray and can't imagine being without it because it adds that extra touch of style to my hair, and I also have seen zero damage to my hair. It's the spray you need so your hair does not looked as stressed as you may feel. :)

IMAG0376

Application:

I like products that can be used with wet or dry hair and this is one of them. You just spray and style as you would with a flat or curling iron, even a hair dryer. You get a glossy finish that just looks healthy and not greasy. The nozzle has a nice spray pattern so you can easily control and maximize application with little to no waste. The KQC Thermal Shine spray works on all hair types too! A great tip I will share is to spray in the shower! You do not have to worry about overspray residue on your walls, pictures, or even counters. Then the next time you shower, you just wet your shower walls down and no mess to worry about! Just don't forget to take your socks off before entering your shower (yeah, I did that once and was left with semi-wet slipper socks...booo).

After 30 days:

I found the KQC Thermal Shine spray did not leave any build-up/residue and I was left with a lightweight finish everytime. Some sprays that add shine also add so much oil that your hair not only feels heavy but looks greasy, this is not one of them. No white powder residue or hair left dry after exposure to any heat.  The spray also lasts because I found a light spray all over is all that was needed. That is 2 to 3 seconds of my finger on the button!  The scent is pleasant and smells clean. I also found my hair lasted longer when it came to styles and restyling. I could easily go from an up-do look to a letting my hair down without any signs left of my previous style!

IMAG0375

Price Point:

Flat Iron Experts has the KQC Thermal Shine spray priced at a reasonable $15.99 for one can that will last. I also found a better deal from the same seller, FIE via Amazon for $13.99, so use your Amazon bucks and get it today!  You will not be disappointed.

Eslor: The Art of Beauty and the Chlorophyll Lifting Mask

header
I got a chance to try Eslor's full line of products, and it's been a treat for my face ever since. And this most recent one,  Chlorophyll Lifting Mask IMAG0414is no different. A skin-tightening Mask made from dried milk proteins plant and seaweed extracts, and natural minerals, it helps to tighten facial skin, enhance blood circulation, and help to diminish those pesky fine lines. I can happily report that, at least in my case, it went three for three. I'm so fortunate to have found Eslor and one day far down the line when someone asks me how I managed to stay so youthful and vibrant looking, I'll be able to say it was thanks in part to Eslor.
IMAG0415

Like all Eslor products, this mask is 100% Free of Parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) and Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate (SLES); it's derived from nature, and driven by science. With their patented HPT System, and the black of toxic chemicals so often found in other beauty products, Eslor promotes renewal and repair in a way unique to them. This Chlorophyll Mask purified, softened and enhanced my complexion, making my face just glow.

The MSRP of this Mask is $38, and it's right up there with masks costing nearly twice as much.. I have many tried many masks, some good and some not so good. This is firmly in the "good" category.

Ingredient list as listed on the site:
Active Ingredients: Aloe Vera Gel, Glycerin, Milk Protein, Lactose, Algae Extract, Wheat Protein, Guar Gum, Yarrow Flowers Extract, Orange Peel Extract and Sodium PCA.

Baking: Hawaiian Bread Loaf Recipe, Aloha Bread

DSCN4567
Being tired of bread that reads like a science experiment gone wrong, I now just resort to baking at home. My experiments, at least when they fai,l are not filled with chemicals and the dog has benefited from a few "oopsies". Thankfully, this is not one of them and it's very easy to make....you don't even need a dough hook.
IMAG0399
Hawaiian bread is suppose to have a little tropical flair with a touch of sweetness from the Pineapple Juice and is usually a nice soft texture. I love making ham sandwiches with it but also just eating it with a little butter.
Let's begin....
You will need:
3 cups of All-Purpose Flour (I use Bob's Red Mill), plus
  • 1/4 cup of All-Purpose Flour (to be used after the dough rises)
1/4 teaspoon of Kosher Salt
2 Eggs (room temperature)
1 1/4 cups of 100% Pure Pineapple Juice (I used Langer's Pineapple Juice), and at room temperature
1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon of Vanilla Extract (depends on your taste)
5 tablespoons of White Sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons of Active Dry Yeast
4 1/2 tablespoons of Unsalted Butter (melted), plus
  • 1/4 tablespoon of softened Salted Butter (to grease the bowl the dough will rise in) and another 1/4 for the final rise and to grease the dish you will be baking in.
First mix your wet ingredients, this would be eggs, pineapple juice, vanilla, butter and white sugar in one bowl. Then in another bowl mix your 3 cups of flour, salt and yeast. Using the mixer with the paddle attachment (or by hand with a spatula), start incorporating the dry ingredients to the wet. I usually do it by hand using a spatula and you will get a sticky dough that is ragged looking. It takes me about 2 minutes by hand to accomplish this. If the dough looks too dry, add a little more pineapple juice. If the dough appears too wet, start by incorporating a little flour until you are left with a moist dough that does not have a over sticky appearance/feeling.
I then allow the dough to rest one hour in a buttered bowl that is big enough to allow it to double in size. This is where I use the 1/4 tablespoon of Salted Butter and it helps keep the dough moist but also does not let it adhere to the bowl.
After the dough doubles in size, I flour the surface and dump the bread dough to start incorporating the 1/4 cup of flour. I begin to first punch down the bread and then slowly knead it for a minute and until the flour is incorporated. I just keep folding in until I get the right texture and if it's too moist, I slowly add a little more flour if needed. I then take the 1/4 tablespoon of butter and grease the loaf pan I will be baking in. I add the dough and again allow the bread to rise for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
Set the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown in color. I then take the bread out and allow it to cool 15 to 20 minutes and pop it out of the pan to further cool down. I give it a couple hours and then start slicing and enjoying. This bread makes great panini style sandwiches and I love how it also toasts up. Get creative and enjoy!
Beautiful Nooks and Crannies in the Bread!
Beautiful Nooks and Crannies in the Bread!
Note- My recipe uses 100% Pineapple Juice that has no added sugars or sweeteners. I feel Hawaiian bread has a touch of sweetness but should not start off being a dessert style bread. It's suppose to be versatile and this why I control the sweetness by adding my own sugar and adjust my vanilla to fit my tastes or future uses.  You can also make buns for sliders using this recipe, versus just a loaf :)
Panini Ham Sandwich I made with the loaf.

Nailtini: Head over Heels nail polish from Tinibeauty, The Lacquer Cabinet

IMAG0407
I do not enter contests often but when BeautyUndercover had a giveaway and I saw the colors, I signed up hoping to win. I did not even look the colors up because they were all gorgeous, so I figure I like heels, so I'll go with the lacquer named Head over Heels.
I won and it's a double win because I picked a fabulous color. Glitter nail polishes are beginning to blend in my head to the point I am shying away from picking any more up because I may own it already or a cousin like it. Head over Heels is in a class all it's own and not attached to a season or even holiday. It's beautiful and I love the ease of application. Head over Heels is a shade, which is part of the Limited Edition named Love, Roxie Collection.  The base is smooth and allows you to glide and disperse the flecks of glitter like you always imagined you would do, but once the brush hits the nail......well, I find myself dotting here and swiping there and even wiggling glitter off. It's the game of take away, where I have some nails perfectly glitter-fied and others look neglected, so I apply more and then it goes too much the other way. I appreciate the smoothness with Nailtini's formula, and the color in the bottle looks exactly as it should when applied. I now have harnessed glitter control powers!
I applied 2 coats and it dries fast, so you can set up quickly and bedazzle your nails at anytime of the day or night. You can apply straight from the bottle with no base color and because I'm Head over Heels when it comes to shoes.....my toes got a very needed pedicure.

On I went with finally coordinating my hands to my feet....not something that happens very often even though I mean to.

Check out The Lacquer Cabinet and the Nailtini collection of limited nail polishes to the everyday beauties we all like to wear. Shades are made in the USA and I love supporting a California Company!  The formulas last long and application is a cinch. I also have a little sugar to sweeten the deal because I believe in saving bucks! You can order below and use code BUC20OFF and order a single collection for 20% off, that makes it $20.00 and that includes shipping....so no funny stuff. The code expires on April 30, 2014.  You don't waste gas going out and the box is delivered to your door.....now, if I could only get a hairstylist delivered the same way, I'd be golden!
You can find the limited editions to the everyday colors on:
